Petra Dickmann

 

Petra Dickmann is a researcher at the University Hospital Frankfurt (Germany) in the Department of Infectious Diseases. She has two academic backgrounds: one in Communication and one in Medicine: she holds a M.A. in Communication Studies and is about to complete her PhD Thesis on Transparency and Restriction. Biosecurity and the Social Ambivalence of Scientific Knowledge at the Humboldt University Berlin (Germany) and the Swiss Federal Institute for Technology Zurich (ETH), Centre for Security Studies. Simultaneously she is completing her medical studies at the University Hospital Frankfurt where she is gaining specific experience in the management and medical treatment of highly infectious diseases.

Before joining the team in Frankfurt Petra Dickmann worked at the Federal Information Centre for Biological Security at the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) in Berlin (Germany), which is the Federal Institute for Infectious Diseases and Prevention. She has gained broad experience in the field of International Health Security in the context of high infectious diseases. She has contributed to the Risk Management and Communication Group of the Global Health Security Initiative (GHSI) of the G7 and organised a workshop on Proactive Risk Communication. She has given many presentations on Risk Communication in international conferences in the USA, Europe and the Middle East.

The current research field of Petra Dickmann is Risk Communication for Infectious Diseases and their Impacts, Pandemic Influenza Preparedness Planning and Biological Security. She is currently preparing a training module on Risk Communication for Emergency Care Clinicians, Nurses and Health Care Workers for the European Research Project European Training in Infectious Disease Emergencies (ETIDE).

Petra Dickmann also works as a consultant for global industries in the field of Risk Communication, Pandemic Preparedness Planning and Occupational Health.
