Dr. Di Caro was Virology Assistant at the Virology Lab of S. Camillo Hospital in Rome. His present position is Senior Scientist at the National Institute for Infectious Diseases “Lazzaro Spallanzani” of Rome. . He has extensive prior experience in basic and diagnostic virology, involving mainly HIV-1, and is expert on virus cultivation in BSL3/4 facility. His research activity is related to emerging and re-emerging infections, focusing on virological aspects of host-pathogen interactions. Currently his main interest concerns antiviral therapy and the laboratory response to emerging infectious diseases, including those originated from deliberate release. Dr. Di Caro is Principal Investigator in national research programs on the development of tools and protocols for the diagnosis of Viral Hemorrhagic Fever and for the diagnosis of Viral Respiratory Diseases. He is author of more than 30 pubblications.
