Dr. Giovanni Putoto has worked extensively as project coordinator in several health cooperation projects in Uganda (1988-1994), for the Italian Cooperation Ministry of Foreign Affairs – Italian Government; in Rwanda (1995 and 1997) for Caritas Internationalis; in 1999 in Kosovo for the Italian Cooperation Ministry of Foreign Affairs – Italian Government and the United Nations Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK). In 1998 he actively participated in the drafting of the Business Plan “Ospedale di Padova” funded by the European Investment Bank (EIB), Contract Number 201434, N. Agora 982189.
Since 1999 he has held the position of contracted professor at the International Development Studies Department, Faculty of Political Science, University of Padua. He also teaches on post graduate courses at the University of Florence and at the University of Venice in the field of health economics and global health.

- Telemedicine in Uganda, Mediaspace Project, under the European Space Agency (ESA), in collaboration with Nsambya Hospital – Kampala
- Pneumocystis Carinii Pneumonia Prophylaxis Project in Uganda in collaboration with the Department of Paediatrics, University of Padova and Nsambya Hospital - Kampala
- Fighting Maternal and Child HIV in Tanzania, in collaboration with CUAMM (Italian NGO) and the Archdiocese of Dar El Salaam
- Strengthening technical capacity of Beira Teaching Hospital, Mozambico in collaboration with CUAMM, under the Italian Cooperation Ministry of Foreign Affairs – Italian Government
- Strengthening technical capacity of the Faculty of Health Science at the Martyrs ‘ University, Nkozi, Uganda
He has also been involved in the preparation and submission of RTD projects under the RTD VI Framework Programme (LIFESHIHEALTH,IST, SCIENCE AND SOCIETY).
