Hans-Reinhard Brodt was born in Germany 1951. After graduating in medicine at Johann Wolfgang Goethe-University of Frankfurt he worked as a resident physician and senior consultant in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases predominately in the fields of HIV-infection and AIDS, tropical medicine and intensive care. He finalised his education with degrees as an accredited specialist in Internal Medicine, Intensive Care Medicine and Infectious Diseases until 1998.
With his postdoctoral lecture qualification he became the senior physician at Intensive Care Unit of Johann Wolfgang Goethe-University. Additionally, since 2003 he has been head of the Dept. of Infectious Diseases at Johann Wolfgang Goethe-Universität, Frankfurt/M.
In 2001 he designed and established a new isolation unit and a centre of competence (together with the public health department and rescue services) for emerging infectious diseases in Frankfurt where he has treated, successfully up to now, SARS-patients and a patient with severe Lassa-fever.
