
Dr. Martin Holmberg is a specialist in infectious diseases, qualified as an MD in 1980, and completed specialist training in infectious diseases in 1993. He gained a PhD in 1990 on new methods for malaria diagnosis, and has worked for more than 10 years at the department of Infectious Diseases, Uppsala University Hospital, Sweden.
He has participated in the teaching of medical students in infectious diseases and specifically tropical medicine for many years, and has a special interest in e-learning.
Since 2005 he has been a senior medical officer at the Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare, unit for communicable disease prevention and control. His main area of responsibility there is in intersectorial cooperation between veterinary and human health authorities in case of outbreaks of serious zoonotic diseases, and in national bio-preparedness.
